Except there was that one time when the neighbor boy came to play at our house and he and I locked ourselves in the bathroom and decided that throwing wads of toilet water soaked toilet paper onto the wall and ceiling was wicked fun. And it was. Until Mom barged in.
I always tried to make good choices and live the commandments.
Except that one time when we went to the grocery store and Mom said I couldn't have the Lifesavers. Boy did I show her. I secretly stuck them in my pocket and not-so quietly snuck them out before we had left the parking lot. Mom caught me and made me go in right then and confess to the store manager.
I was respectful of other people...never hurting them or intruding on their personal style.
Except that one time when I got out moms electric sewing scissors and decided it was time to play barber. I was good. A natural. So good that not only did the 'fore mentioned neighbor boy want me to cut his hair, my younger sister couldn't wait for her turn. As usual, Mom came in and ruined all the fun.
I always told the truth. Never made up stories to avoid punishment.
Except that one time when Mom was asking who had opened the cake mix and eaten half of it. I denied it, despite having the incriminating evidence behind my back in a big blue cup the whole time. Dang it!!
I always spoke respectfully to my elders.
Except that one time in Jr High School when my science teacher told me I was getting an "F" in her class and "You're so stupid," just flew out of my mouth. I knew I was in for it then. In my defense, she didn't like me because I was always passing notes in her class....wait, what kind of defense it that?
I was the nicest of all my parent's children. In fact, I was a favorite amongst my siblings. They loved me.
Except that one time when I sarcastically asked my younger, adoring sister, "Who told you that blue and pink looked good together? They were so wrong."
I always went where I said I was going, never missed my curfew and always played it straight.
Except for that one time when my boyfriend and I left a party early to
I just hope that my daughter turns out as good as I did.
Except not really. I hope she is better!

LOL I love this! Very clever. :)
You sound like the perfect child! I stole dynamints....does ANYONE remember those? There were like tic tacs but some were fruity some were cinnamon....ahh well, anyway, I stole those and my mom made me return them and confess!
LOL, I loved this!
You WERE perfect...except for when you weren't!
I loved this!
Oh the trouble that we get into as kids. Those things sound a lot like things my kids are doing now. Yeah, its awesome.
I never got into trouble as a kid. I'm not sure why my children have chosen to punish me everyday?!
Are you sure we were not twins separated at birth, because I thought, for sure, that I was the exceptional child. Hmmmm. :)
My Mom said the same thing about me. I guess she has really bad memory (or she has blocked it all out as a coping strategy!). This was a fun read, and if your kids ever see it, it will definitely have to go into the "Do as I say, not do as I do" category! - G
I think you and I could have been friends growing up...
Very well done. I may have to think about something similar! You have a great sense of humor.
Funny! Love your honesty!!!
Love this!! Nice to see I wasn't the only "Exceptional" child... just hope my little man doesn't turn out to be too "Exceptional" =)
Love this! Great approach to this prompt. Love the mischievous memories!
Love your blog!! I read a ton of posts you are a great writer. I studied sign language and deaf studies in college and have a lot of deaf friends, even an ex bf. I can relate a bit!
Thanks mama kat for introducing us!
Love this post! I laughed at the theft scenario because I did the same thing and mom made me return and confess... Needless to say, I never repeated that experience!

i get scared hoping my daughter's don't turn out like me..i mean i do in some ways...but (shivers) what punishment am i in for?
Oh my yes, how scary to think of our children doing what we did :-) Wonderful post.
What a great list! I think we've all done some of it..I had a similar grocery store experience, and learned from it! Also something else in common. I raised a foster daughter - both her natural parents, and 2 of her 5 siblings were deaf. She never even learned to speak til she went to kindergarden. She was a great kid, became a great woman, and mother - tragically, lost her to cancer in 2000.
HAHHA..That is so funny!
Wow!!! You were almost as perfect as me!
Umm, yes, I'm fully aware of who's raising I'm payin' for!
Funny and creative! I love it! I have discussed "the purpose of life" at some point myself!
Thanks for dropping by my blog! Happy weekend!
