...not to be confused with the "go Jo-Anne's, buying fabric and a pattern that you don't really understand, and spend hours and hours making a shirt that you wouldn't be caught dead wearing" homemade.
Right.
So we made our shirts on Saturday night. It was a lot of fun.
Briggy got so into it. He would squirt paint, then brush it around, then squirt some more of another color. It actually ended up pretty great. We were all praises and encouragement. Lots of fun.
We woke up Sunday morning and my boys insisted on putting their shirts on before church. When it was time to get dressed, there was no taking off Briggy's shirt. "No. I am wearing this shirt." I told him he could wear it the minute he got home. "No." He suggested wearing his church shirt under his Super Bowl shirt.
I was finally able to convince him that he could wear his shirt under his church shirt...unbuttoned. Ugh. Some fights just aren't worth fighting, I tell ya.
But all through the first hour of church I tried convincing him how great it would be to button up his shirt. He wasn't having it.
I tried one more time. "Briggy. Are you sure you don't want to button this up."
"No, Mom.Those guys," pointing to the boys passing the Sacrament, "might see my shirt and say, 'Hey! That's awesome!'"
Yes, he was really proud of his shirt.

Awww...he wanted the big guys to see his shirt! What a fun tradition to do every year....I'm sure its one your kids will love doing for years to come!
This is great! I think I'm going to borrow your idea! Briggy and my son would be great friends. ; ) He used to wear his favorite jersey under his shirt unbuttoned until I finally gave up and now he just wears his fave jersey... you are absolutely right, some battles are just not worth the fight. ; )
Awe!
My boys wouldn't even let me paint their faces this year. I let them watch the end of the game in their beds... I went down to turn off the TV and Oldest was crying because "we" lost. Youngest was crying because he lost the football pool. :)
Tony came home and I asked if he was ok...
"Yeah. It's really for the best, because then I'd have to go out and buy all new hats, t-shirts, sweats... the loss will really save us a lot of money."
"Well, then I guess that's good."
"Yeah. But I really wanted to buy the stuff."
It was a sad night here in New England.... I however, went to bed with a full belly of great food and couldn't tell you who half of either team are. :)
I love this tradition. Now if I only like basketball.
Ha.
Haha!
Get it?
Basketball?
Superbowl?
Ummm...
never mind...
I bet God thought it was a pretty awesome shirt too!

Great story! Love that he's waiting for the deacons and teachers to realize how cool his shirt truly is.
