I don't know why I even try sometimes. With four boys and one husband, the fight of the video games is a losing battle. When it was just the computer, it wasn't such a big deal. Don't get me wrong...it is still a deal, just not a big deal.
Now we have a big deal. That is because we got a Wii a couple years ago and since then our life has never been the same. My boys, if I let them, could play all day long and not get tired of it. My daughter, not so much. What is it about boys and technology? I have one son who wakes up thinking about it...asks all day for it...goes to bed dreaming about.
They are only allowed to play it one day a week. At least that is the goal. Sometimes it is twice, but most the time we stick to the one day. They are allowed 30 min -1 hour depending on how many chain links they have earned during the week. But I tell you, 30 minutes in gaming time to my boys is like 5 minutes. It is crazy!
The games are always on their mind. You can tell this by the lnaguage or gaming lingo that they use. For example, yesterday, we went swimming at the aquatic center. It was time to get out of the house and what better place than the indoor swimming pool.
I was playing with my two older boys. Brody, 5 years old, was splashing me like a mad fool. I couldn't even look up. I wasn't wearing goggles and I had my contacts in so it was me losing, him winning. Then he started to splash Kobe, who did have goggles.
Kobe says "No damage. Zero damage. ZEEEE ROOO Damage"
I thought that was funny. Who talks like that???
Apparently my 16 month old knows how to do damage. I guess he's had enough of this gaming stuff. Last night my husband walked into the downstairs bathroom and found a Wii controler in the toilet.
Now that is some major damage! (to the ring of $40!)

that is really bad to throw a wii remote, because it breaks.
Wow, you are one tough mama! There is no way my boys could survive on only one day of WII a week!
I am impressed!
I'm laughing out loud! I think the baby is on to something... there is more than one way to do damage.
Blessings,

my two oldest girls are Wii fiends too. They usually get to play on weekends, but they bug me about it all week. They would play for HOURS if I let them.
Man Stef, you can't even get past a level in 30 minutes! Bummer about the controller in the latrine.
I have been holding off getting any video games. But if I got one, I would get the Wii so I could use it for the workout stuff. I think it is great that you limit your kids use!
One day???? Hmmm......how do you get a nuke an wouldn't that affect your rank? I don't even know what any of those are, but that's what I hear around here. I know how to prevent constant gaming - make everyone get a job! ;)
Everyone at my house from young to old plays video games except me. We try to limit it to an hour A DAY so I say you rock. That would never work here since it is the hubby that is saying, hey, come one, let's play.
My daughter is not into anything remotely electronic and I think more often boys are into those things than girls. I applaud you for limiting their time on these games, I think you are absolutely right to do so. My nephew who is now almost 12 has been obsessed with them since he was about 4 and often spends all day on them, which is just crazy.
No remote = no video game playing. That will solve that problem quite quickly!!
There does seem to be some kind of natural attraction to video games with boys I think. It eludes me ... but I'm missing some of the key parts I think! : )
As amother of three sons ~ no girl. I know what you mean about the video games! Our boys are 23,21 and 18. So we had nintendo ... back in the day!
Have a pretty night!

ooo, wii remote in the toilet...ouch. Those things are expensive... My husband is like your sons. He lives and breathes video games whenever he gets a break from helping me with Ellie and work. I played a little bit of video games when I was in college too but we're 30 now and he still plays it as if he's 15. Men and video games....probably something we'll never understand.
I love "zero damage." I'm going to start saying that when I win a bet with the Bear. We have a lot of bets. I lose and say I don't care. Then he tickles me. ZERO DAMAGE
I used to be an addict, too. I gave up playing most games when I was 14 because I just couldn't handle it…
Life is better now because of it, too.
