Comfort.
For some it is a blanker. For others a stuffed animal. And still for others it is music.
For my third child it was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
For the life of me I can't figure out why that was his thing, or even where it came from. It wasn't like we introduced him to it. "Here son. Now let me tuck you in. Oh, here is your sandwich. Now go to sleep."
We didn't. I promise. And yet he would ask for it. Call out for it. Cry for it.
And it wasn't like he would eat it. Oh, no. We would put it in a sandwich bag and he would lay his head down and insist that we put it on the pillow next to him. And in the morning, it would still be there. Slightly smooshed, but still untouched.
Don't judge. You have all been there, at the end of a very long, stressful, day and your child just won't go to sleep and won't stop screaming. And you know he just tired and if he would just calm down for one minute, he would sleep. And if a PBJ is what is going to get the job done, then why not.
We did eventually wise up and reused the sandwich several days before disposing of it. And thankfully, it didn't last too long. But isn't that the weirdest thing?
But if later in his life, if he turns to PBJ's during stressful times, we will all remember him softly petting his sandwich as he slowly drifted off to sleep.
Comfort food, indeed.

bwhahahah ok that is hilarious.. at least he didn't eat them.. but that is a weird thing huh. Kids can do some of the oddest things
Ok.
That. Is. Hysterical.
Someday the reason will come out and we'll all be like, "Well, duh! That makes sense!"
Until then, it's just the myserty of all time. :)
aren't kids the funniest? and you know some one is judging. . .but I've been there too, something that insignificant to make them happy!
Oh, I'm laughing so hard at the comfort food line :) E doesn't sleep with a sandwich (thankfully) but she does like to sleep with a bottle of juice. Sometimes she would place it on her pillow next to her and then cover it with her blanket (in case it got cold) or she would hold on to it in her arms as she fell asleep. I always thought it was a strange thing to sleep with but I think your's is much stranger :)
This is so cute! Totally, totally funny! And hey, that white bread is pretty squishy comfy.
ok i totally love your child. is that not the sweetest yet weirdest thing in the world. at least he'll let you put in a baggy..imagine if you didn't ...haha
Gotta love a kid who sleeps with pb & j.
=D
That is adorable!
That is a riot! Don't tell anyone but ALL of my children still sleep with their baby blankets.
That is the funniest thing I have EVER heard.
No comfort foods come to mind, but my youngest daughter always wanted a wet paper towel for any injuries. We used to joke that she could have a broken leg and want a paper towel to make it better.
