There's nothing like the sound of a saxaphone.
There's nothing like hearing your son playing the saxaphone.
There's also nothing like hearing your 6th grader practicing his part for his concert at 7:00...on a Saturday morning. . And his part in Jingle Bells sounds nothing like Jingle Bells....mostly "oom-pah's" and "honks." ...mostly "honks."
There is nothing like going to his first concert. A little awkward. A little off tune. A lot of fun to watch and listen to.
There's nothing like seeing his smile, knowing that you were there just for him.
There's nothing like getting a call from the school a few days later, letting you know that the high school has your son's saxaphone. What? Huh? He is in middle school! How the....????
There is nothing like asking your son how in the world did his saxaphone get left in the rain, a block north of the school!
There's nothing like the "I totally forgot it" excuse.
There's nothing like almost throwing $2000.00 down the drain.
Nothing like it, I tell you.

And this is why my kids don't play instruments.
Unless you count the recorder. But those can be replaced at the dollar store. :)
Julianna, I'm giggling b/c my kids each have a recorder. And a harmonica. I'd really like them to be well-rounded, musical instrument playing kids like I did as a child w/the violin (but in the '80s the school GAVE us the instruments for the year).
Even an ALMOST $2000 gave me palpitations.
This sounds all too familiar. The good part and the not so good part.
;)
Did you beat him? Cuz I hear there's nothing like a beating to "remind" children never to do that again. :) (I promise not to call DCFS)
At least it was recovered...Whew!
I played the clarinet for 6 years and I'm sure my mom and step-dad heard more than their share of honking in the beginning!
My oldest did not want anything to do with band but I still have another one coming up in a few years and I could be wrong but I believe this one is going to be a drummer!
hoo boy... We had a clarinet player for one year. We now have a used Clarinet : )
Dana
Just wait until you hear the concert in a few years. You won't believe how improved they are.
Good thing someone didn't know how much that sax was worth and pick it up for e-bay! :)
