The last word.
It really is the most important word.
Whoever gets it...wins.
I like to have the last word. I think it is genetic. My mom always got the last word. And her mom. See, it runs in the family.
Getting the last word isn't always easy. Sometimes you can get it without a fight. Other times you have to be sneaky. You let the other person think they have it and just when they are walking away, BAM, "Last Word."
I sometimes could win it with my siblings. I most of the time I win it with my children. But I can never win it with Hubs.
Is he just tougher than me? No. A better arguer? No way! Perhaps his last-word blood runs thicker than mine? Inconceivable!
The thing about Hubs is this: he says what he has to say, turns his back towards me and then he walks away. You see the minute he takes his eyes off you, the conversation is over. Done. No more. There is no yelling, "Last Word!!" to him. Because it falls on deaf ears....literally.
It's actually quite frustrating. Me loving the last word and all. I have tried to come up with some creative ways to get the last word in.
I could always throw something at him. You know, like a sock, or a ball, or a book. But that isn't really modeling appropriate behavior.
I could squirt him with the water bottle. You know, with one of those industrial sized bottles that can shoot like 15 feet. That would definitely get his attention. But who carries one of those things around with them all the time? Plus, it would feel a little awkward.
I could tackle him and force him to look at me, but then my hands wouldn't be available to sign "Last Word", making the whole thing pointless.
Yes, getting the last word with Hubs is near impossible.
Thank goodness for texting.

Loved this. I didn't see that ending coming!
I bet he dreads texts!
So funny Stef! I didn't see that ending coming either! So glad texting allows you to have the last word! :)
I could just picture you running up behind him and tackling him and then realizing you couldn't use your hands to get in the last word!
Text away!
Yes, I think I would have to text every conversation!
(I like having the last word, too...)
;)
oh yeah, I was feeling your frustration... and then you threw in the greatest last word vehicle... the cell phone. You are one smart lady.
Dana
I could never handle it.
Never.
Ever.
ever.
ever. :)
Too funny :) It's the same way with interrupting when he's signing too, right? You can't properly interrupt him when he's saying something since he can refuse to see you signing back at him.
I rarely did the last word thing with my siblings but with E, it's a whole other story. I'm ashamed to admit it but I revel in having the last word when it comes to arguing with my 2 year old :)
